Can mindset coaching help release your full potential?  Now that’s a big question.  Hmmmmm.  My full potential?  Just how big can I go?  What can I actually do?  How can mindset coaching help me achieve this?

Maybe the better question is “what is holding me back?”  or “what is keeping me small?”  These questions are what Mindset Coaching helps overcome.

What is holding you back?

It took me years and years to realise I was the one holding me back, that I was the one putting obstacles in my way.  I had this voice inside my head that kept saying “oooo you can’t do that”, “you’re not good enough to do that”, “that is never going to happen”.  I was stopping myself before I even started and I was putting all these things in my own way to save me from having to start in the first place. 

Procrastination and perfectionism are two very popular areas for Mindset Coaching.  An even more lethal combination is  Procrastination + Perfectionism = a big fat ZERO

Perfectionism!

It took me a long time to learn Pareto’s 80/20 rule.  You will spend 20% of your time getting 80% of your project completed, but then you will spend 80% of your time refining and tweaking and perfecting.  The downside is what is perfect in your eyes is not necessarily so in others eyes.  Others will always see something else; want something different, so it will never be perfect to everyone.  What helped me overcome perfectionism was when a Corporate director saying to me “Stephanie, 80% is good enough and then we can work from there”.  Wow, what an eye opener that was.

Perfection is the lowest standard you can achieve. Do you know that?  Why?  Because you will never ever get there, you will never ever achieve it.  You will always see something else that could be done, something else that could be changed to make it better.

Being a habitual perfectionist is the hardest. In the beginning you can make changes and get real job satisfaction from having done so.  Now you have refined everything so well that you have lost sight of how far you have come and what you have really achieved.  You are in the habit now of constantly looking to tweak and change and this is taking up 80% of your time. 

Wow, just think if you took off that perfectionist cape just how much work you could really get done in the time you have.  Or, how many hours you could spend with loved ones, friends, on the hobbies that you adore but haven’t touched for years.  It is all about getting a balance.

Are you ready to unleash your full potential?

Please give yourself permission to not be that perfectionist. Give yourself permission to make a start on the project you have been putting off. 

Encourage yourself to look at one small part of the project and not get overwhelmed by the whole. 

Allow yourself to breathe.  Remember life is there to be enjoyed so enjoy it. 

Enjoy the work you do, the people that you love and give yourself permission to be good enough not perfect.  Try it and see where it takes you, you will be amazed!
